Bill Breland

CDR Bill Breland was born in York, PA but now resides in Houston, TX since 2005. CDR Breland graduated from St. Louis University with a Bachelor of Science in Aeronautics and was then commissioned as an Ensign via Aviation Officer Candidate School in Pensacola, FL. During flight training CDR Breland was selected for the tactical jet pipeline, and after earning his Naval Flight Officer wings he reported to Air Antisubmarine Squadron 41 in San Diego, CA for further training in the S-3B Viking. He joined his first fleet squadron, Air Antisubmarine Squadron 22 in Jacksonville, FL and was deployed aboard the aircraft carrier John F. Kennedy flying missions in the Mediterranean and Southwest Asia areas of operation involving combat in OPERATION DESERT STORM. CDR Breland was then assigned to Training Air Wing Six in Pensacola, FL as an intermediate and advanced jet flight instructor. He has accumulated nearly 2000 flight hours and 200 carrier arrested landings in the S-3B Viking and multiple other naval aircraft. He earned his Master in Public Administration from Troy University while on active duty.

As a Naval Reservist, he was assigned to Tactical Support Center 374 in Jacksonville, FL as a Department Head and Executive Officer and then to Naval Base Jacksonville Support Unit 0174 serving as the Commanding Officer. His decorations include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (two awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal and various unit citations and campaign medals.

As a civilian, CDR Breland spent 20 years as a healthcare sales executive working with and training surgeons, nurses and sales reps in the operating room. After retiring from both the Navy and the corporate sector, CDR Breland assumed the duties of Senior Naval Science Instructor at North Forest High School in Houston ISD where he spent 5 years instilling the values of leadership, citizenship and discipline to the students there. CDR Breland joined The Guthrie Center as the Senior Naval Science Instructor in Jul 2023. He is married to Susan Breland and has three sons that are all University of Texas at Austin graduates.
